The Joe Simon Community Outreach, Inc. (JSCO)
The Joe Simon Community Outreach, Inc. (JSCO) is headquartered in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. JSCO staff travels throughout America, and the world, and meets with youth and young adults at their neighborhood community centers, schools, and places of worship. The mission of The Joe Simon Community Outreach is to reach and teach youth and young adults through the Performing Arts, at the same time, emphasizing self-esteem, self-worth, discipline, character, responsibility, accountability, and giving back to their neighborhoods, their communities, and to humanity.
Over the past several years, Joe Simon Community Outreach, Inc. (JSCO) has been concerned about challenges facing urban and suburban youth, particularly youth between the ages of 9 through 16. Increasingly, with each passing year, our schools and community programs fail to address the needs of our youth who have artistic aspirations. By not receiving ample support, youth experience difficulties as they transition through early adolescence to young adulthood.
In response, the Joe Simon Community Outreach was created to provide a safe nurturing environment where youth and young adults can focus on the performing arts, including live hands on musical training, opportunities to record CDs, and travel- ing throughout the US and around the world performing in community youth choirs. In addition, all youth choir members will participate in the JSCO “Teens Assisting Seniors” Program (TAS). In the TAS Program, the youth will, on a weekly basis, assist senior citizens within their local communities, with household chores such as yard work, store errands, newspaper reading, etc. Through the TAS Program, the youth will create successful bonds with seniors and develop a sense of pride and a vested interest in the community. The result will be a positive experience for those involved, with the Program offering additional rewards and incentives for the youth.
